Giving an Old Oak Chest a New Look!

I found a very old oak chest of drawers in a local thrift store. I love those old planked sides and it was all together charming. However, it was in pretty bad shape. The bottom drawers needed work and the wood was badly worn and stained. For more fun Before and After projects, check out my blog at www.thepainteddrawer.com!

Such glamorous drawer pulls on this piece! I also love the keyhole drawers.

I decided to have fun with this one! I started out with a base coat of General Finishes milk paint in Somerset Gold. I then added Annie Sloan Graphite on top.

I then took a stencil and added the pattern using Annie Sloan Louis Blue.

To give it a finishing touch, I applied touches of gold along the details.

I distressed the whole piece back to show off its details and allow the Somerset Gold to pop through.

The distressing gave it that farmhouse vibe!

In order to stencil the drawers, I lined them up with the drawer fronts facing me (up) and stenciled as if stenciling one large area (or wall). This way, when I put them back in the chest the pattern lined up.

It's in my dining room at the moment looking festive for the holidays!
