A Fabulous Setee Makeover by Somewhat Quirky Design

But when I got it home it went straight into the never-never-land that is my garage.

When the hosts for the November Fab Furniture Flippin' Contest announced the theme for this month's competition was Take A Seat and that Minted, the sponsor for November, was supplying up to 5 yards of fabric for the contest, I knew it was time to drag this baby out of the garage.

It was gross. Really gross. And no matter how many layers I put on top of the gross could make me forget that it was there. So I ripped it all off and upholstered (very unprofessionaly I might add) the whole thing with a heavy canvas. Since this settee was too low to be used at the dining table I built a cushion to add height. So far that seems to have solved the shortness, but if it doesn't work I will add casters. Thanksgiving dinner will be the test.

The fabric from Minted was great to work with and a great weight for a slipcover.

I am anxious to explore Minted.com for the next fabric I need. They also make papers, stationery items, and frameable art.

I rather enjoy making slipcovers. That other stuff - taking off the old stuff, and reupholstering - not so enjoyable. My advice is that if you are going to do it, invest in the proper tools, rather than making do. They can cut the time involved in half.

That is still a considerable amount of time but it is worth it.
I'm pretty much diggin' it in my dining room.
