I found this broken chair back at my local green dump and quickly swooped it up, I figured I could at least use the spindles for something! What I came up with used way more than just the spindles!!Can you believe that this awesome cookbook/Ipad/Recipe holder was made out of that broken chair back, a piece of pegboard and part of a 2' x 4'?
I started by taking apart the chair back, then I layed the spindles next to the pegboard and marked on the pegboard where the slots on the spindles hit so I could cut out tabs.
Next I slipped those tabs that I cut out with a jigsaw into the two lower slots on the spindles and put one of the chair braces back into the top slots.
Then I set the assembled piece on top of my base piece and marked the spindle placement. I used a spade bit to drill about 1" down into the base.
I set the middle brace that I had on top of the base piece and traced the shape and cut it out with a jigsaw. Then attached the brace to the front of the base.
After the base was cut out, I put some glue in the holes I had drilled and set the spindles into the holes. All that was left was to add some pegs, dowels and eye hooks for my accessories.
I painted it with chalk paint so I didn't have to sand anything and then dry brushed a darker color on top to give it some dimension,
I added a clipboard clip for paper recipes too!
