My husband and I love to think up and repurpose (I think and he builds!) projects from old fence boards. There's just something about creating something beautiful out of something that was thrown away. I put my own spin on this by connecting it to the real meaning of the season for me.I've used the tree both inside my home and outside on the front door.
Every bit of it was pulled from my husband's scrap wood re-purposing pile; the trunk of the tree was part of an old bookshelf and was already a dark stain, the "branches" were from his favorite re-purposed fence slat wood, and the "stand" was just a chunk of 2 x 6.
While he liked the rough, unfinished look of the wood, he wanted a bit more uniformity to accommodate the vinyl lettering to happen later. All he did was lay out the "branches" and dust them with a light aerosol primer.
I used black outdoor vinyl and my Cricut diecutting machine for the lettering. This was a fairly easy project and one that we use in our decorations every year.
