DIY SCRAP Wood Candlesticks

When issued a challenge to build something with sCrap wood, I went right to my leftover stash of spindles and more.

When you make a lot of projects out of beds and chairs, you always save the leftover bits and pieces for future projects. Who would have thought bunk bed top posts would come in so handy?





When cutting bed post pieces on a miter saw, use extreme caution and make sure that all the metal pins have been removed.





I've made lots of candlesticks before, but this is the first time I've had round discs to work with.





In addition to the round discs, I had two square bases leftover from a headboard bench I made, so I decided to give two of the chair spindles a square bottom.





I'm happy with the way the chair spindle looks on the square base.





I used a finish nailer, wood putty, and Gorilla Glue to bring all the pieces together to make a bunch of new candlesticks.





Spindles are such a chore to paint by hand, so I used my Finish Max to do a couple of coats of my DIY Chalky paint primer.





I didn't want a crisp look, so I used some dark wax to age them a little.





I enjoy putting bits and pieces together to make new projects-it's sort of like playing with building blocks.
