Record/radio Cabinet Made Into...

I came across this old record player/radio at an auction. No one wanted it and I knew right away I could make it into something else.

Here is the before. I removed the door and took all "guts" out. Unfortunately I don't have a picture of that. I cleaned, sanded, and primed the entire piece inside and out.

I cut out and sanded down all the racks, painted, and put it all together and it's now a wine rack.

I left the radio intact so that if the buyer chose they could add a modern antennae and speaker so they could play the radio again.

The Perfect Snowman Decor To Last All Winter

Do you want a Build a Snowman? I do! It's time for another exciting chapter in The Home Depot Monthly Gift Challenge. In the past, we've shared How To Build A Wine Bottle Bird Feeder, 10 Minute Rope Curtain Ties, 24 Artwork, a Pegboard Luminary, Wood Box Caddy, and an Industrial Book Rack. Here's how the challenge works: a different item is chosen from The Home Depot by one of our group members and then we each make a gift to be given to a different recipient each month. October's item was a furniture leg or bun foot and the lucky recipient is my in-laws. Today, I am sharing a cute project you can make just in time for the holiday season.

Supplies
- Foam-board
- 3 Lids, plates, or other items in various circular sizes to use as patterns for the head, middle and bottom of the snowman
- X-ACTO knife
- Scissors
- White yarn
- Twigs/sticks
- Buttons
- Craft Glue
- Hot Glue Gun and glue sticks
- Furniture leg - you may need additional tools to shape it the way you would like. I used a miter saw, sander, hammer, and a chisel.
First, I traced three different sized circular lids onto a piece of white foam board. The smallest circle is for the head, the middle sized for the body, and largest for the bottom of the snowman.

Next, the three circles were cut from the foam board using a X-ACTO knife and scissors.





Then starting from the center working my way to the edges, I wrapped all three foam circles with some of the softest yarn I could find, Bernat Baby in white. I wanted him to be extra fluffy looking. Using craft glue every so often, I secure the yarn in place.





After that came the challenging part: the furniture leg.
It took a few tools to turn this bad boy into a snowman's carrot nose. I cut the leg with the miter saw, split one half of the leg with a hammer and chisel, shaped a piece of the wood with a sander, and painted it carrot orange with acrylic paint and a brush.











Then, it was time to bring out the hot glue gun. Two buttons for eyes, eight baby buttons for the grin, and one re-sized and re-shaped piece of a furniture leg were all glued to the smallest yarn covered foam board to make the adorable face.





I also hot glued three black buttons to the middle section.





Finally, I attached the three snowball pieces together with more hot glue and added the arms to the back as a final touch.





The sticks don't have to be the same length. They just have to appear the same length from the front.
Isn't he cute?





love him! I gave him to my mother-in-law last weekend and she really likes him. Yay!

Christmas Chair Flair

Why just be a placemat when you can be so much MORE!!! I love dressing up my chairs with holiday placemats. Super easy and oh so cute!!

Found these last year on clearance. I added some ribbon ties to hold in place. LOVE

Made these a few years ago just tacked the sides together. SUPER EASY and SWEET

DOUBLE PANTRY BARN DOOR DIY - UNDER $90

I am so happy to finally share with you my barn door DIY . Built for my pantry, I would have loved a true barn door on a sliding track, but the space did not allow enough room for this. So, I had to build two narrow doors.

I say "I" built the door, but really, I nagged my sweet husband into building them after giving him my "vision" for the space. The doors were built for under $90.





We used tongue and groove pattern board. For the full list of materials and instructions, visit my site.





After constructing the doors and hanging them with hinges, I stained them using wood stain. Then, I gave them a weathered look by whitewashing them in light gray paint.





We then added some long chrome pulls and magnetic cabinet closures.





And so you can appreciate just how far my kitchen has come, here is what it looked like when we first moved in.

DiY Black Pipe and Pine Industrial Shelves

And looked upon the room did she,
Spun 'round and uttered her decree,
She pointed there, her eyes ashine,
Then spoke the words, "Of pipe and pine."

And so it was commanded, and so it would be done: my home office, with newly refinished desk, would receive an industrial-rustic shelving installation made from pine boards and black pipe. My wife really wanted my office to have black pipe and pine shelving that attached to the wall. I had built some smaller pipe and pine shelving and tea carts on casters, but she had grander visions for this version. As with all wifely matters, who was I to disagree?
As I had done with some of my earlier dabblings with pipe and pine, I opted for 1 x 6 tongue and groove boards from Home Depot, the knottier the better.

I cut the boards to size, glued them up and added supports. Three shelves have 4 slats and three shelves have 3.





Some sanding to take the edge off.





Then some stain. Ebony stain fit the bill.





Next I cut holes for the pipe and sealed the wood with my "go to" Polyurethane.





Time to build! My wife was kind enough to spray paint the pipe to matte black.





First the floor flanges.





Building up...





and up...





Adding some caps to the third shelf.





The third shelf is the showcase shelf. It has an 18" opening, while the other shelves are 12".





Screwing the top flanges into the wall.





And done!





My wife did a little decorating...





And that's it!

Toilet Paper Tube Angel Ornament

I have something of a love affair with toilet paper tubes. I don't know, there's just something about them that gets my creative juices flowing. How can I turn that unmarked, cardboard cylinder into something new and out-of-the-ordinary?

It took me several months of picking one up and cutting, setting aside and cutting, followed by more setting aside and cutting to come up with this sweet little angel. Once I had her body/skirt figured out, the rest came together easily.

After painting the tube with cream-colored craft paint, and then cutting strips for the skirt (leaving about 3/4" uncut at the top), you'll tightly roll the whole thing together and glue it at the top.

Add a painted craft store wooden "head", some gold cord for a halo, and a bit lace around the neck, and you're more than half way done.

On my blog you'll find a pattern for the wings and more detailed instructions to help you put one of these angels together. I think she'll look sweet hanging from the Christmas tree.
